In Friday’s newsletter, we highlighted the news that £3m of funding had been secured to help get the new Fife ferry to France service up and running and asked if you would use it. • 🎤 Young entrepreneurs across Fife showcased their ideas at Dragon’s Den 2026 in Glenrothes, part of the Culture of Enterprise Programme. Primary and secondary pupils pitched social enterprise concepts, with winning schools receiving seed funding to develop their projects and build creativity, teamwork and business skills.

• 🚧 £80,000 road improvement works on St Andrews Road in Ceres will run from the 6th to the 10th of April to enhance pedestrian safety and walking routes. The scheme includes a new crossing, raised table, drainage upgrades and a speed sign, with the road closed to through traffic and diversions in place.

• ☀️ Students at Fife College’s Dunfermline campus heard from industry experts about careers in renewable energy, with strong optimism for solar and other renewables. The event highlighted growing opportunities in Scotland’s energy sector and the role of skills development in supporting the transition to cleaner, more secure power sources.

• 🐦 A juvenile shag, ringed at the Isle of May near the Firth of Forth in Scotland, has been spotted after travelling an unusual 319 miles to a housing estate in Hull. The seabird’s rare urban sighting highlights its long-distance movement and the ongoing monitoring of declining shag populations.

• 🚆 ScotRail has relaunched its £60 Family Pass for Easter, offering seven days of unlimited travel across Scotland for up to two adults and four children. Valid between the 3rd and 13th of April, the pass aims to make family travel more affordable and convenient during the holiday period.

• 🚵‍♂️ A £2,000 donation from ExxonMobil’s Fife Ethylene Plant is supporting the launch of a mountain biking “Trail Therapy” programme at Lochore Meadows. The initiative combines cycling with mindfulness and peer support to promote mental wellbeing, marking its first rollout in Fife.

• 🌿 Land around the proposed Balmullo Quarry extension in Fife is being considered for special protection as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). NatureScot’s assessment could influence planning decisions and has extended consultation, with local campaigners hoping the designation will halt the quarry expansion.

• 🚑 A walker was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy after falling from the Elie Chainwalk in Fife. The cliffside route, supported by chains and affected by tides, is considered hazardous, with emergency services warning visitors to follow tide guidance and safety advice. Anstruther Lifeboat Station has a calendar of safe times to walk the route here.
