ποΈ What Do Fifers Want for Their City?
The Dunfermline New City Assembly has presented its final recommendations to councillors following weeks of deliberation by local residents on how to shape the city's future. The Assembly, which brought together a diverse group of residents to examine evidence and discuss priorities, delivered 12 recommendations covering everything from youth facilities to transport infrastructure.
Key recommendations include developing a Dunfermline App for residents, creating a cleaner and greener city centre with a distinctive identity drawing on Dunfermline's history and heritage, providing better support for young people to find skills and entertainment in the city centre, and establishing a green, reliable and integrated transport network. The Assembly also called for greater resident involvement in decision-making, monthly event flyers, and revised policies to support independent businesses.
Councillor James Calder praised the "exceptional" commitment shown by Assembly members, saying their work offers valuable insight into community priorities as Dunfermline grows as Scotland's newest city. The City of Dunfermline Area Committee will consider these recommendations and provide a formal response in the coming weeks.
