• ⚡ More than 70 pupils from nine Fife secondary schools attended a Girls in Energy conference at Fife College’s Dunfermline campus, taking part in renewable energy challenges and STEM workshops aimed at encouraging young women into careers in the sector.

• 🍛 Dunfermline Indian restaurant Dhoom has unveiled its latest 10-course tasting menu, Chef Prasad’s Desi Eats, inspired by a 9-month culinary tour across India. It’s the restaurant’s 13th menu since opening in 2018; check it out here.

• 🗳️ Abbeyview residents have voted on how to allocate £30,000 of Fife Council funding, with eight community projects, including youth football, a community garden, and support groups, set to receive grants following 645 votes from local people.

• 💧 Writing in Fife Today, Melanie Ward MP has condemned sewage pollution at local Fife beaches, highlighting that Kinghorn, Pettycur, and Burntisland have all seen water quality decline, even as Scottish Water raises bills by 8.7%.

• 🏖️ First Minister John Swinney visited Silversands Beach in Aberdour on Wednesday, where work is currently underway with the project delivering new parking and beach accessibility.

• 🚦 Fife Council is proposing to reduce speed limits from 30mph to 20mph on several Kirkcaldy roads to improve safety and protect all road users. Residents are invited to check the proposed streets and provide feedback by April 13th.

• 🏉 ScotRail will run longer trains and extra capacity on key routes to Edinburgh as thousands of fans travel to Murrayfield on Saturday for Scotland’s Six Nations clash with France.

• 🏗️ Fife Council has approved plans for 56 new council homes at Boreland Road in Kirkcaldy, with construction set to begin in April 2026 and completion expected by February 2028 as part of its Affordable Housing Programme.

• 🥣 Fife’s Graham’s Family Dairy has expanded its Cowdenbeath site with a £3.5m extension, boosting production by 50% and creating 25 jobs. Viral recipes on TikTok, including “cottage cheese breakfast rounds” and “edible cookie dough,” have driven UK sales from 900,000kg in early 2023 to 1.7 million kg by late 2025.

• 🛠️ Navantia UK is recruiting 35 apprentices to join its fabrication yards in Arnish, near Stornoway, and Methil, in Fife. The scheme offers roles in electrical engineering, fabrication, and welding to support the company’s growth in shipbuilding and offshore energy, including gas, nuclear, and renewables.

• 🍽️ St Andrews councillor Robin Lawson has called for better regulation of tables and chairs left on pavements by hospitality businesses, noting that Edinburgh generates £9 million annually from pavement rentals and arguing that a similar system could tidy St Andrews and make pavement use fairer.

🌊 Historic Fife Harbour Saved?

February was a stormy month for the Kingdom, and Dysart Harbour was particularly hard hit, with storms blasting a massive hole in the harbour wall. When the news first broke, there was uncertainty around who should be responsible for the repairs and worries that the costs could not be covered, with the wall likely to continue deteriorating as a result.

Thankfully, there is now clarity, with Fife Council confirming it will repair the historic harbour. Work is expected to begin within the next two to three weeks to make the wall safe and prevent further deterioration. The quick start will be crucial to preventing the damage from worsening further, though hopefully the worst of the weather is now behind us.

The harbour, operated by Dysart Sailing Club and home to several boats, is also a popular spot for visitors, particularly Outlander fans, as scenes from the hit TV series were filmed there. Councillor Ian Cameron said the council is "absolutely committed to preserving this historic harbour for future generations," adding that they're working closely with the sailing club to plan a full repair beyond these initial emergency works.
