TOP STORIES AROUND THE KINGDOM

🌊 Grants of Up to £5,000 Now Open to Help Fife Homes Tackle Flooding

Fife Council has reopened its Property Flood Resilience Grant (PFRG) scheme for 2025, offering residents and business owners the chance to claim up to Β£5,000 to protect their properties from future floods. Following a successful year in 2024, another Β£250,000 has been made available for upgrades like flood doors, air brick covers, and non-return valves, anything that helps reduce flood damage and recovery time.

As part of the scheme, the Scottish Flood Forum will help applicants get a free flood assessment to figure out what their property needs. For more details on eligibility and to apply, head here.

πŸ–οΈ St Andrews Crowned Scotland’s Most Expensive Seaside Town in 2025!

As covered in one of our previous newsletters, Fife is home to some great affordable towns for families. However, it’s no secret that the Kingdom also includes some incredibly expensive areas, making it challenging for families to relocate here. Indeed, a recent Bank of Scotland study named two Fife towns among Scotland’s most expensive seaside destinations!

With its stunning architecture, worldwide golfing appeal, and historic university, it’s no surprise that St Andrews topped the list. The average home here now costs a whopping Β£458,381, that’s up 8% in just a year! Not far behind is Anstruther, which ranks fourth, with homes averaging Β£267,367. Other top spots include East Lothian’s North Berwick and Dunbar, plus Helensburgh and Musselburgh.

The study also highlighted seaside towns with the largest price increases over the past five years. Unsurprisingly, a few other Fife towns made this list too. Topping it was Anstruther, which has seen prices rise by 52%, followed by Burntisland, up 48%. To us locals, it’s probably no surprise that Fife continues to be popular, offering great access to the outdoors while staying close to many of Scotland’s cities. [Bank of Scotland]
