TOP STORIES AROUND THE KINGDOM
π― Call to Revive Kinghornβs Community Council After Two-Year Gap
Kinghorn is being encouraged to bring back its community council, which folded in 2023 after nearly 50 years due to a lack of volunteers. Councillor Kathleen Leslie is leading the call, highlighting the council's importance as a voice on local issues like planning, licensing, and community initiatives. The group previously acted as a hub for updates from local organisations such as Kinghorn in Bloom, the RNLI, and the Kinghorn Community Land Association, as well as a space for residents to engage with community police and hear news from the primary school.
To re-establish the council, a petition must be signed by 20 local electors. At least eight members are required to form the council, which would meet quarterly and receive an annual grant from Fife Council. Councillor Leslie hopes interested residents will come forward and continue the work started by former Chair Allan McIlravie and his team. [Fife Today]
π’ Kirkcaldy-Edinburgh Forth Crossing Back on the Table with New Study

Plans to create a new Forth crossing linking Kirkcaldy and Edinburgh have been revived following the completion of a Β£27,000 feasibility study. The findings will be presented to local councillors to consider the next steps in what could become a significant transport and regeneration project.
Unlike the abandoned 2007 hovercraft pilot, which lacked political backing from Edinburgh, this latest initiative has support from both sides of the Forth. With regeneration along the capitalβs northern coast - Leith, Granton, and Newhaven - now well underway and all connected to the tram network, the case for a rapid vessel service is stronger than ever.
The previous hovercraft trial completed the crossing in just 18 minutes, offering clear benefits for commuters and tourism. Councillor Ian Cameron, who has championed the idea for over two years, sees it as a key part of Kirkcaldyβs long-term regeneration strategy and a potential boost to economic activity. [The Scotsman]

πΈ Pupils at Lawhead Primary School took part in spring flower planting with Barratt and David Wilson Homes, who donated tools and praised gardening for its mental health benefits.
πͺ The former Clydesdale Bank in Leven will become a gym offering classes and personal training. Approved by Fife Council, the plan brings the long-empty building back into use and supports town centre regeneration.
βοΈ Urgent Β£450,000 repairs are needed at Dysart Harbour, an Outlander filming location, to stabilise unstable cliffs and protect a tunnel. Fife Council has pledged Β£250,000, with an additional Β£200,000 needed for the work, ensuring safety for walkers and preserving the historic site.
β³ A new digital queuing system has transformed access to the historic Old Course in St Andrews, allowing golfers to secure last-minute tee times. Over 3,600 golfers have successfully played through the system, which simplifies the traditional queueing process, ensuring fairness while maintaining the tradition.

AROUND FIFE
Each week, we highlight positive news stories, hidden gems, and local experiences to explore.
β‘ Fife College Launches EV Charge Point Training for Electricians
Electricians in Fife and across Scotland can now boost their career prospects with new training in electric vehicle (EV) charge point installation, thanks to a partnership between Fife College and Shell UK. The college is offering the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in EV Charging Domestic Installation (2921-34) at a significantly reduced cost. The course is aimed at qualified electricians looking to upskill for the growing EV sector.
Backed by Shell UK, the initiative is part of a nationwide effort to support 15,000 people into energy transition roles by 2035. Fife College is one of three key Energy Transition Skills Hubs, with a target to support 5,000 learners. With over 1.3 million electric vehicles already on UK roads and EVs making up nearly 20% of new car sales, the need for qualified charge point installers is more urgent than ever. [Fife College]
π² Inner Forth Bike Bus Returns for 2025 Season

The Inner Forth Bike Bus is back for a second season, running every Sunday from 20th April to 26th October 2025. This free service connects Alloa with the Forth Bridges, making it easier for cyclists and walkers to explore the Inner Forth area sustainably. The service is designed to help people enjoy linear walking and cycling routes without the need to retrace their steps or rely on car travel.
Launched as a pilot in 2024, the Bike Bus was operated by PVT Transfer using a minibus and bike trailer, with stops at key heritage sites and active travel hubs. The trial was a success, and the improved 2025 service will provide even better access to lesser-known destinations and scenic routes across the region. Walkers are also welcome aboard, and while bookings aren't essential, they are recommended for those with modified cycles. [Inner Forth Futures]
