✅ Green Flag Awards for Fife Parks

Great news for park lovers in Fife! Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy, Letham Glen in Leven, and Pittencrieff Park in Dunfermline have all been awarded the internationally recognised Green Flag Award. The award recognises parks that excel in areas like community involvement, environmental management, safety, and maintenance, ensuring each space meets the needs of its visitors while preserving its unique character.

If you’ve visited these parks, you’ll know why they’re so special. At Beveridge Park, you can explore nature along the boardwalk or take a boat out on the pond. Letham Glen offers a beautiful woodland walk and peaceful picnic spots. Over in Pittencrieff Park, you’ll find lovely gardens, brilliant kids' play areas, and all of it right on the doorstep of historic Dunfermline. Got a favourite spot or memory from any of these parks? • 🚒 SFRS will host a drop-in session in Dunfermline on August 6 to discuss plans to cut a fire engine and make other permanent changes as part of a national service review.

• ⛏️ A plaque honouring Cowdenbeath’s mining heritage will be unveiled on Saturday at Brunton Square, marking Cowdenbeath Rotary Club’s centenary and the town’s deep-rooted ties to the coal industry.

• 🌟 Celebrities including Rachel Riley, Pasha Kovalev, Aston Merrygold, and Love Island’s Nathan Massey visited Fairmont St Andrews to celebrate the new Smurfs film, enjoying golf, themed events, and family fun at the resort.

• ⛽ Asda is celebrating its 60th birthday with a ‘golden ticket’ giveaway in Tayside and Fife stores. Shoppers who find one of 40 hidden tickets could win free fuel for a year, worth £1,500.

• 🏡 Stacey Solomon and the Sort Your Life Out team are filming in Glenrothes this week, helping a local family declutter their home. Co-star Dilly Carter also visited Gleneagles Hotel during their stay in Scotland.

• 🚫 People have been warned against entering the water at Burntisland and Kinghorn Harbour beaches after high bacteria levels were detected. Sepa warns that water contact could cause illness, and pets should also be kept away.

• 🩼 Cupar’s Minor Injuries Unit at Adamson Hospital will close on July 25th, with services relocating 10 miles away to St Andrews.

🎫 Cheap Fringe Tickets for Fifers

Fife’s packed with brilliant summer festivals, from the month-long Lang Toun Fest to the lively Silverburn Music Festival. But Edinburgh’s Fringe remains the biggest draw in Scotland, attracting crowds from across the UK and beyond. I’m sure many of you plan to pop over for a few shows this August, and as a big fan myself, I’ll definitely be heading over the bridge a couple of times.

That said, with Edinburgh getting busier each year and ticket prices climbing, the Fringe can feel a bit less accessible these days. While Edinburgh locals get some discounts, Fife folk don’t always have the same access. However, the Gilded Balloon is back with their Postcode Pals scheme, offering discounted tickets for residents in EH, KY, and FK postcodes. Tickets start at just £6 for shows running from July 30th to August 3rd.
