💪 New Fife Leisure Campaign Inspiring Locals to Get Moving

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust has launched a fresh new campaign aimed at getting more people across the Kingdom active and energised. Titled “What’s Your Thing?”, the initiative takes a more personal approach to fitness, encouraging locals to try a range of activities until they find one that keeps the motivation flowing, whether that’s swimming, lifting, running, walking, or something entirely different.

Visitors to Fife Leisure venues will see campaign visuals, inspiring videos, and real-life stories from people across Fife, sharing the joy of movement and the power of finding an activity that fits your life. As part of the launch, an online competition is offering the chance to win a free annual Club Membership worth £341. To enter, simply share a photo of you enjoying your favourite activity on the campaign website here.

Local venues will also feature fun, interactive elements, including whiteboard stations, where visitors can write down their “thing”, and a Spin the Wheel game with on-the-spot prizes. And to make staying active even more convenient, Fife Sports and Leisure Trust is set to launch a new mobile app later this summer. It will allow users to browse timetables, book classes, and manage their Leisure Hub accounts straight from their phone.

LOCAL HEADLINES YOU NEED TO KNOW

• 🤖 NHS Fife has just celebrated 1,000 robotic surgeries since 2021, using advanced Da Vinci tech to improve outcomes, speed recovery, and reduce complications across cancer-related procedures at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

• 🤝 Dunfermline marks 80 years of friendship with Trondheim this August, celebrating one of Europe’s longest twinnings with a civic reception and time capsule opening in Pittencrieff Park on August 20 at 2pm.

• 🚧 Work has begun on the £5.2m Mountfleurie footbridge over Levenmouth rail link, offering safe walking and cycling routes. Completion is expected March 2026.

• 🏠 Fife’s Housing First project has helped 113 people escape long-term homelessness since 2020, offering one-to-one support and stable homes. The council is now seeking funding to expand its life-changing impact.

• 🍻 The Scoonie Tavern in Leven is reopening soon under new management, offering drinks, food, live music, and more, just months after a £500k revamp and unexpected closure in May.

• 🥔 Rustic Tatties in Cowdenbeath sold over 1,700 baked potatoes on opening weekend. Locally sourced spuds, creative toppings, and strong community support made the High Street launch a huge success.

• 🏨 The Adamson Hotel in Crossford, near Dunfermline, is still up for sale at £1.75m. The 39-room property made £1.3m+ last year and includes a restaurant, bar, and beer garden.

• 🎤 Midge Ure will still headline Fife’s sold-out Rockore Festival on August 23rd, despite announcing urgent health treatment is forcing him to postpone all gigs from September onward.

• 🧥 Glenrothes brand Keela has re-released its iconic Falkland Parka 95, worn by Liam Gallagher at Glastonbury 1995, with just 50 made to mark Oasis's reunion shows.

• ⛳ Masters champ Ian Woosnam has called for radical changes to the Open Championship, with The Open held only at St Andrews with a custom-built course next to the Old Course to handle today’s big hitters.

🎤 Big Names and Local Talent to Headline Outwith Festival

Dunfermline’s award-winning Outwith Festival is back from September 3rd to 7th, with a packed programme of music, talks, art, film, and family events set to take over the city. Run by volunteers, the festival celebrates Fife’s creative spirit and showcases some of Scotland’s best emerging talent. This year’s events will centre around Carnegie Hall and the Glen Pavilion, but with 17 venues across Dunfermline, everything is within easy walking distance.

While the focus remains on up-and-coming artists, the festival isn’t short on star power. British astronaut Tim Peake will be appearing at the Alhambra Theatre, and local literary legend Ian Rankin, creator of Inspector Rebus, will also feature on the lineup. The hugely popular Music All-Dayer returns too, with performances from Arab Strap, The Twilight Sad, Siobhan Wilson, and Connor Liam Byrne.

With 35 events already listed on the festival website, there’s no shortage of things to see and do over the five-day run. Whether you're local or just planning a visit, there are plenty of reasons to head to Scotland’s newest city for a day (or more) of culture.
